Commercial Benchmarking and Energy Efficiency Compliance Reports Due July 1, 2023

June 12, 2023

As you may recall, in 2015, the City of Atlanta passed the Commercial Benchmarking Energy Efficiency Ordinance, requiring energy and water benchmarking and auditing for commercial, including multi-family, properties greater than 25k square feet within Atlanta’s city limits. The City believes utilizing this benchmarking tool is critical in finding opportunities to make buildings much more energy and water efficient, reducing emissions, and also a cost savings. Properties that meet the greater than 25k square feet within Atlanta’s city limits criteria are required to benchmark their energy and water usage, submit that data to the City on an annual basis, and have an ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit conducted every ten years. Training on the ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® platform is available anytime through the Mayor’s Office of the Mayor's Office of Sustainability & Resilience. If you are interested in learning more about the platform or how to submit your data through the platform, please contact Michelle Midanier, Clean Energy Programs Associate, City of Atlanta, Mayor's Office of Sustainability & Resilience, at mmidanier@atlantaga.gov, or direct mobile: 470.510.4800 The deadline for filing 2022 data is July 1, 2023. Please visit the City of Atlanta's Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Ordinance website for more information.
